Such a beautiful poetically written book about the fall of Lucifer from heaven.

Fucked me up in the best way that now I just feel empty and ruined, angel of beauty, angel of worship, come back to me

Really incredible writing style, I fell in love with everything in act 1, the characters and environment felt interesting and dynamic, however about half of act 2 is tricky to get through. The stylistic choices feel less poetic and more repetitive, and at times very confusing. There were a few pages of text that I just found entirely unnecessarily. The ending was very strong, and the central character arc was very strong and tragic

“Haven’t you ever wondered why Father is so strict about our subservience? It’s because disobedience is creation,” a shivering breath, “create with me, Michael, and let’s call it sin.”

It has been so, so very long since I have devoured a book with such fervor. The eloquence of the descriptions and the flow of the book had me entranced from the first few chapters. I could not put this book down. It is a retelling of a story most are familiar with, but I found this take on Christian lore to be refreshing. Reading how Lucifer slowly begins to question everything he's ever known and been told and wondering if there's more resonates with me, having left the faith myself.

As Lucifer gets closer to falling, his thoughts start to run a mile a minute and you lose grammar and I think it's a fantastic touch. It might be hard to read to some, but the way it's written flows with how my thoughts are organized so I thoroughly enjoyed it and the characterization it provided.
I also appreciated seeing so much of myself reflected in a character, which doesn't happen often. Seriously loved this book and I'm off to devour the next few in the series.
