My first YA fantasy (not counting Harry Potter), it was a ride and I liked it!

Can’t wait for book 2!

(I listened to the German Audio Book Version, which was really well done)

The audiobook really made this book great. Such a good cast + good writing. The story itself was fine, nothing too amazing but the voice actors made it feel so real and vivid, excited to see what comes next

This was pretty good! The magic system was really interesting and intricate, with pretty strong core cast of characters. It's bit like a pirate adventure, with magic. The plot did seem a little YA cookie cutter, but that's not always a bad thing. Of course, we end on a cliffhanger, so be warned if you do pick this one up!

There was a lot of detail put into the magic system, but I wish there was a little more detail put into the actual world building. At times, it was difficult to really place where all the countries were and what was happening with them. Maybe a map would have been helpful! Perhaps a hazard of listening to the audiobook.

Anyway, despite that, still such a fun read overall!

Isle of the Gods is such an adventure. I loved the world building, which had a steampunk feel - autos and horses as transport, electricity. Most of the books was spent on the water, and the author’s love for sailing and being on the water really came through the page. There is a unique religious system, where the gods used to walk among the humans 500 years ago but no longer do and still have a high presence throughout the world. The magic system is also unique with the four elemental spirits. I loved our MCs, even our morally-gray one.

5 distinct POVS
- diverse cast, including lgbtq+
Constant adventure that is typical of an Amie Kaufman book

ARC was provided by publisher and Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

I tend to lean more towards sci-fi than fantasy, so when I come across a book that has a fusion of the two, I'm in heaven.

The Isle of the Gods is set in a world filled with magic, engineering marvels, social divisions, and religious zeal.

As each character sets out on their own journey, fate intervenes, and they'll soon find themselves facing a destiny beyond their imagination.

Through betrayal and sacrifice, they'll need to come together for the greater cause or risk war.

I devoured the book in a day. There might have been little sleep involved, but it was well worth it, and I can't wait for the next book!
