I’d read the Aurora Cycle so I felt confident I’d be entertained, but whoa…still catching my breath. This seafaring YA adventure is…brutal. Did I cry before I even arrived to part two? yes. Kaufman is just so adept w her characterization, the relationships…I just love them all, and maybe even the character I harbor a vengeful rage toward. Anyway, good stuff and I’m relieved book two is already (recently) out.

I was in the mood for a seafaring fantasy and this book did not disappoint. So much conflict and development of characters on their journey for a mission larger than themselves. Looking forward to the sequel.
