I will eat up a found family story in which the characters are having to face hard truths about themselves and we see them grow. This book is an adventure with lovable characters I cheered on the whole way with a side of that sweet young (tentative) blooming love. I absolutely enjoyed every moment
just not able to get into high fantasy right now

Take a privateer, a scholar, and a prince and put them on a boat. Then take away that boat and strand them on an island. You’re up against a ticking clock to make a sacrifice that will save the world. No big deal, right? Insert the sister of a crime boss who is determined to stop them and bring about a war between the gods.
This was a really fun book! It was fast-paced and easy to follow despite the five POVs. I really appreciate the dimension that the story added by including the villain POV so we could really understand her motivation and choices.
The romance is slooow burn but I’m excited for the next book! This is more of a YA Fantasy than a Romantasy, but it is also an exciting, edge-of-your-seat adventure quest.
Thank you to bookswithnopictures/Ashlee for sending me a copy of this one so we could read it together!

I want to say the pirate's life is for me but there's no pirate. So... the sailor's life is for me? The privateer life's for me?
In order to prevent another war between the gods, Leander's family has been making a trip to their goddess's altar for a sacrifice every 25 years for 500 years. He pushed off his travels for nearly a year and there's zero time to waste. Leander steals aboard a merchant ship and Selly, one of the crew, is not having it. She only wants to return to her father's ship and this delay, in addition to how aggravating Leander is, makes her want to throw him overboard. But loyalties are in question and complications with terrible consequences have them teaming up against a common enemy.
Not often do we get the antagonist's POV but having Laskia's interwoven between the others made this dimensional in the best of ways. With five points of view, I thought I would get confused, but Amie knocks it out of the park. Each character is extremely distinct and I enjoyed all of the POV's without feeling anxious to get to the next.
I read and listened to this book simultaneously which is why it took me so long to finish it. Definitely wasn't a lack of interest. I found the immersive read to be fantastic and refused to give it up in order to get through it faster. The narration is incredible between the cast chosen (Steve West is one of my all time favorites and I don't think he can do wrong), their accents, and performances. Highly recommend reading it this way.
