adventurous

i can’t help it i just love these books. they make me feel like a kid (maybe because i used to read fantasy and YA as a kid and this is more that kinda avenue than anything i’ve read in donkeys years) in a good way. i’m committed to the quest for the dark tower and i don’t wanna hear anyone saying anything if despite all my criticisms of king’s dodgy writing of women and people of colour i keep reading all his books -.- let me enjoy myself

THIS IS TOO META

I wish I had read Salem's Lot before I read this...Would I have viewed Callahan's whole vampire adventure a bit differently? It felt really random, but maybe it actually wasn't...?
Oh, and apparently the audiobook narrator had a serious motorcycle accident after reading this book. So, he won't be reading the next two... which sucks, I've gotten attached to him. And his voices for the characters.

As for the story itself, well the whole adventure with the wolves of the Calla (lol, the title of the book...) felt like filler to the actual adventure of the Dark Tower. If they had skipped this adventure entirely, nothing really would have changed. They have Callahan in their party now (oh, but apparently he's a fictional character? lol so meta...!!!), and Suzanna is off having her baby, but neither of those things really needed that huge framing story with the wolves. I guess it was a fine adventure, but it just felt...irrelevant.
I really didn't like Callahan's vampire story, but I now think that it would have been WAY cooler if I'd read Salem's Lot. As it stands, it just felt really random--vampires, really?

Meh.
This book had its ups and downs, but there were more downs than ups. Andy the messenger robot was cool and I thought his death was a bit too quick. Who is leading the wolves? Who is the Crimson King? So many questions left unanswered... omg the Crimson King better not be Stephen King >____> I'm already annoyed that he put himself into his own book (well, at least he had other pop culture things as well... Harry Potter, Star Wars...)
But, it does seem like this series is going to get even more crazy from here on out. I'm excited~ hopefully the last two books are better than this one.

The 5th instalment of the Dark Tower, and I'm still as absorbed as ever by the world(s) it creates. Thankee sai King, for gifting us with these wonderful stories. Onward to number 6.

This and Drawing of the Three are probably my favorite of this series so far.
