I LOVED IT.
truly hyacinth couldn’t have a better story. all of the bridgerton girls deserve this type of love. because even tho gareth is such an ugly name he is a angel.

he loves her for her wickedness and wit and yes finally a man who doesnt want the girlie to change (cough cough phillip 🥱)

and the storyline was SO fun, loved the little scavenger hunt. this one is truly special.

  • Why must Julia Quinn always write her male main characters with some kind of anger issue, as well as making some pretty questionable choices with respect to consent?
  • I liked Gareth a lot…and then he decided he absolutely must compromise Hy while they’re engaged so she can’t back out of marrying him. Excuse me, what?! And then there are literally no consequences for it. She never finds out that he did that intentionally. Ugh. I docked this .5 stars just for that.
  • It was otherwise cute and whatever.

The seventh installment of the Bridgerton series ties with the sixth, When He was Wicked, as my two favorites thus far. Both had relatively unproblematic heroes, and the writing in both was better than the previous books in the series. Gareth is maybe even more charming than Michael, and I enjoyed Hyacinth as well. I think she was one of Quinn's best developed characters. There was also tons of chemistry between Gareth and Hyacinth. It's still a modern regency romance so it's full of anachronisms, particularly when it comes to the character names, but I was able to put them aside and enjoy the story for what it was. One more book to go and then I can finally watch the cultural phenomenon that is the TV series.

I thought this was gonna be my absolute favorite from the beginning and it lived up to the hype. Hyacinth is so funny and I absolutely adore her, this book was perfection. 12/10 would recommend to everyone ever.
