This one was a big let down for me. I loved area x trilogy. This one was so just character focused but the character was so bland less than 300 pages felt like 600.

It started good but it slowly burned itself out. I lost interest at about half way through. I read 80% and skimmed the rest. It was boring and I did not care about anything happening or about the characters.

"Happiness never made anyone less stupid."

A post apocalypic world, a scavenger travelling through it with her amorphous squid-like monster sidekick.... I liked the description of this book it sounded like it would be right up my alley, but found it very confusing and difficult to follow along with the plot and struggled through the slow pacing. I ended up having to kind of skim through it and find scenes that I enjoyed and then skim again once my interest was lost. There is a lot of random world building that is interesting but not really elaborated on in a satisfying way.

Oh, Borne. Borne! Similar to the way I felt about Rocky in Project Hail Mary. A sweet, misunderstood “hero” in a seemingly hopeless situation. I really enjoyed the way this book was written and the very poetic language and descriptive scenes. This book showed me that I AM a “sci-fi person.”

Borne was one of the best science fiction books I've ever listened to. I'm glad I for the audiobook, despite having a signed printed copy, because [the character] Borne's voice was so adorable. The narrator did so well. I listened to it nonstop almost.
