The best part of this play is the language. Act II in particular feels less like a comedy a more like a meditation on life that is filled with wisdom and famous lines. Beyond that, the play falters, and while it’s easy to follow, the comedy feels significantly less compared to some of Shakespeare’s other works.

The ending suffers from the magical “all problems magically vanish and everyone gets married” cliche, and as usual, none of the villains are particularly villainous.

I will say, this is the one comedy where the main romance takes center stage and is by far the most interesting. In other plays, particularly Merchant and Much Ado About Nothing, it is the secondary characters whose love story we get most invested in, so it’s got that going for it.

Read so I could watch the film on iplayer! Not my favourite Shakespeare and I didn't think it was as clever as some of his other ones but some funny moments and readable if you just accept the major plot points rather than looking for any explanation behind them (Duke Frederick decided to kick his niece out and then become a hermit why...?). Hope the movie is good!

As You Like It:
I really found this play refreshing with the lead female being full of jest and wit and I really like the strong support female Celia and I love how it a really mix and matched play but I do feel it comes together in Shakespeare ways with not everything being explained love it. 3/5

Didn't care for it.

Put this aside for a long time because I had no motivation, finished it the day before it had to be returned to the library :')

Turns out Shakespeare is actually harder to read when there's no French musical of the play and you don't have the Sparknotes edition?? Wow. But it's just as fun. And it was cool to read a comedy instead of a tragedy for a change :D
