This is an interesting volume of Furuba. It's another of those that doesn't really move the plot forward all that much, but what it does is set us up some awesome pay-offs.
The introduction of Ritsu is nicely done, he doesn't come off as annoying for the reader (although understandably annoying for the Sohma's who deal with his... loud apologising more often) but it's enough for us to understand how he feels, for Shigure's words to have some affect - and for us to see what a match he and Shigure's editor would be!
This volume contains one of my favourite parts of the series - when Tohru finally admits to worrying about the future, and Shigure likens it to loads of laundry. Not only are the drawings chibi-esque and therefore adorable, the meaning behind the segment is so well done too. These books might be aimed at younger readers than myself but even I could stand to listen to some of my favourite lessons from this series more!
The ending here is very cliffhanger-esque. Rin has been mentioned here and there throughout the earlier books so finally meeting her now - especially after the black Haru segment - is a good way to end the volume, especially when you compare it with the 'feeling' that Tohru, and the others, have but cannot explain.

Not much plot development, other than Hatsuharu being frustrated, and more Ayame + Yuki storyline. I'm getting a bit tired of Tohru - she's too much of a pollyanna, and everyone thinking she's the bees knees (and saying so all the time) is starting to get on my nerves... I mean, for someone with her backstory, I wish she'd have a more interesting personality!

I'm at a loss of words...now
RITSU APPEARED!
Also, I realized that I have only some volumes left to finish the series.
It will make me SO emotional
*deep breath*
I will live
Also...literally everyone in this series has a troubled past!

It's sort of nice to see but also kind of sad at the same time for Haru to completely destroy a classroom because Izuzu broke up with him. Like it's super over dramatic and more than slightly concerning but, you can see how relationships don't go well in this family. For one reason or another (mostly named Akito but, who's counting?) relationships just seem to be doomed for our zodiac members.
Ritsu just makes me want to hug him. Poor young man is just so anxiety ridden that he can't help but apologize for even being alive and taking up space. In all honesty, everyone in this series just needs like, a billion hugs and kisses and all the love in the world. Most of these people are really great, nice, people and they've had the most horrible experiences growing up.
The parent-teacher conferences are simply just interesting. Shigure is both very nice to go for Tohru since her grandfather can't as well as an entirely selfish person for wanting to simply see the look on her teacher's face when he shows up. But that's true for most of his behavior as well.
The whole haunted house thing is just kinda weird to me (mostly because I'd have have to time travel 10 years in the past to get scared by them anymore) but, then again Tohru is easily frightened.
Beach house vacation looks to be interesting, if for no other reason that a lot of the Sohma's appear to be planning on going there to hang out for a little while.
