I think this would be a fantastic book club book. I was quite engaged while reading - it is a lot of telling not showing prose but sometimes that's what I want and I don't mind it. There were also things I'd nitpick about how the plot progressed but I found myself preferring to suspend disbelief. But like a Christopher Nolan movie, it bothers me more in hindsight than while consuming the media. Still will recommend this to people because it would be so good for discussion. The insidiousness of white feminism.

I really enjoyed the premise for this book and all the social commentary that followed in the plot. The characters were interesting and the structure, even though the POV shifted a little bit roughly, totally worked. I binged this one in just a couple of days and I will be reading the follow up novel The Shutouts as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Not quite a 5-star due to some minor issues with plot and some unexplored explanations of some of the logic, but I still had a really good time with this concept. It was one of those situations where I got a good story, but I just wanted to know more. I wanted a bigger exploration of the "world" created. I'm hoping to get a little bit of satisfaction to that regard by reading the follow-up. Fingers crossed.

Regardless, totally worth the read and one I would consider putting on the shelf for a reread sometime soon.

Loved this. Maybe a 5. Can’t wait to read the next one.

This book about a dystopian world where climate change has ravaged the earth and your best chance of survival is up (space) or "in" (a contained city bunker) was a page turner. Jacqueline, a billionaire and women's rights advocate envisions an all-women "Inside" community which she has seeded with her own daughter -- the product of a forced surrogacy -- and which she will monitor from space. But will getting rid of the patriarchy result in equality for all?

I loved the premise of this book, and it may be the first fiction story I've read that addresses the perils of white feminism (and from a white/white-passing woman!). This book has a sequel, THE SHUTOUTS, so ymmv on how satisfying you find the ending.

She realized that it wasn't enough to assume the things you wanted would happen; you had to make them happen. The things that she wanted were hers for the taking, or not taking, but either way, action and choice were imperative. Passivity would never yield the intended results.
Which was, coincidentally, the same line of thinking that led to the birth of something else: her book.
Yours for the Taking!: Reclaiming Female Power in a Changing World was sometimes criticized for being overly corporate and light on nuance, but she didn't read the criticisms. She didn't really engage with the dialogue surrounding her work at all. She believed in it, and as her own book prescribed, as a woman, believing in yourself sometimes had to be enough.

I have a feeling this is going to be too heavy handed with its messaging, and seems to be a character study at this point. And I’m not connecting to the characters.
