Every once in a while, a book comes around that reminds me how grateful I am for the life I have. This book was a mix of the absolute worst case scenario of the climate crisis and the white feminist wet dream gone wrong. I simultaneously hated the book and couldn’t put it down.
Too depressing of a vibe for where I’m at to enjoy right now.
Thanks NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the eARC of this book.
The year is 2050 and Earth is almost uninhabitable because of climate change. For those who have been accepted to live in the Inside, there is hope of surviving. Funded by a group of billionaires, the Inside provides a safe haven for people to live protected by the hardships and horrors that now come with living on Earth. Jaqueline Millender is one of the billionaires who owns/runs one of the Insides. But her Inside comes with a twist, different rules and inhabitants specifically no men allowed. She thinks this will protected the women living in her Inside and eventually they will be able to have babies and raise the males in a way that will not repeat past mistakes and their awful treatment of women. The reader follows v, Olympia and Shelby as they try to navigate their new world.
This books deals with issues such as environmentalism, gender roles, trans rights, racism, morality and mortality. I really enjoyed this book. My only wish was that the ending was a bit slower. I did like the ending but thought it should have taken its time.

This book was pretty awful, it read like fan fiction. It was very poorly written or rather perhaps, poorly edited, heavy-handed in the details related to the future world and queer identities, farfetched in the drastic changes and oversights of our future world. I found myself constantly rolling my eyes at some of the details that were included. Was overall disappointed because I expected something better from the premise.
Goes right for the throat of capitalist girlboss feminism. This dystopia seems uncomfortably possible, although some of the plot did feel a little contrived and the pacing was a little jarring. Overall I enjoyed it.
