Dystopian space sapphic is what hooked me but what made me stay was the intriguing world of inside. The girl bossification and prominent white feminism made this book feel more like a thriller. Fun concept I would have loved more information about the world of inside and the other stories within in it especially more about Shelby’s life.

Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book didn't blow me away but it was thought provoking and original. I've been trying to get back into dystopian fiction and when I saw a book that incorporated feminism, queer representation, and the climate crisis, it sounded really interesting. Unfortunately, one of my main concerns was that this book may have tried to accomplish too much. It tackled massive problems but I felt like a lot of the commentary was either half baked or too in your face. Subtlety was lacking and I thought it would have made the book more nuanced.

Additionally, the character work felt underwhelming. I wasn't attached to any of the character in any meaningful way, But, I did think that the author was good at creating scenes that readers can relate to and empathize with. That said, I think if this book was marketed as young adult, I would have gone up a star because there were a lot of character interactions and decisions that I thought were pretty immature.

Overall, I think I would read more books by this author and the book gave me a lot to think about (which I consider a win) but I was a little disappointed.

It's giving a Nasty Gal x eugenics collab

The world that the author created was very interesting. For some reason I couldn’t really connect to the characters. I felt like there was a lot of telling and not a lot of showing. The world and the plot was enough to keep me reading until the end though.

Tense, atmospheric and dystopian. This story examines the extremes of our political climate, drawing a long line into the future from our inaction on climate change to our men's rights / women's rights struggles and how society views trans people and gender essentialism. What if all of these issues reach their natural conclusions, and are paired with an ego maniac billionaire who can shape the world to her liking?

I found this to be highly compelling dystopian fiction. The world Korn builds feels highly familiar and also entirely brand new. I loved the issues explored and also the wide variety of characters (this is a multi POV novel) who play a key role in the tale.

However I found the character development to be slow and shallow. All the characters felt like one dimensional caricatures - serving a role in the narrative but not having much personal development or depth. This is probably due to the fact that we only see them in quick snapshots over many years.

The ending felt like a soft sigh instead of a climax. The whole book felt like it was building towards some big dramatic explosion which never happened.

The narration was clinical and felt detached from the text, lending very little emotional weight to the events. I think this book had a lot of big and interesting ideas that ultimately were not realized in the actual narrative.

So so surprised by how much I loved this. Very interesting cast of characters, very good take on a dystopian novel.
