This book has some issues and probably could have used a bit more time with an editor…but I really enjoyed it. I thought the audiobook was really good.
3.5⭐️ rounded up.
I liked this book. It has all the things I generally like: near future setting, moral dilemmas, sapphic themes.
It just didn’t fully grab me. But I did like it and I will read her new book!

felt kinda like a dystopian black-mirror esque tv show at times but like also a queer critique of corporate girlbosses and climate change all wrapped into one and was sometimes cheesey so all in all i had a great time

Solid speculative fiction novel that focuses on what if Elon Musk was a woman and people actually decided to let her try and make her own dome cities as the world was even more rapidly falling apart than it was currently. Ended up being a bit simplistic in the sense that the clearly evil Elon Musk analogue eventually gets put in jail when her cultish insanity comes out. The character work is solid, but I honestly won't remember too much of this in another month or so.
This was a different type of book that I normally read,
The story begins in the year 2050. Earth has started to become inhabitable due to severe climate change. Ava and her girlfriend live in what's left of Brooklyn, and though they love each other, it's hard to find happiness knowing that soon they won’t even be able to go outside. The only people guaranteed survival are the ones whose applications are accepted to The Inside Project, a series of weather-safe, city-sized structures around the world.
Jacqueline Millender is a reclusive billionaire/women’s rights advocate, and thanks to a generous donation, she’s just become the director and she's built her whole brand rethinking the very concept of empowerment.
Shelby, a business major from a working-class family, is drawn to Jacqueline’s promises of power and impact. When she lands her dream job as Jacqueline’s personal assistant, Olympia, who is finishing up medical school when Jacqueline recruits her to run the health department Inside. The more Olympia learns about the project, though, the more she realizes there's something much larger at play.
As Ava, Olympia, and Shelby start to notice the cracks in Jacqueline's system, Jacqueline tightens her grip, becoming increasingly unhinged and dangerous in what she is willing to do—and who she is willing to sacrifice—to keep her dream alive.

WHEW! This dystopia hits close to home as the next presidential administration lines up to take office. Parts of this were fantastical, of course, but I found the plot to be compelling and I liked the narrative voice / world-building overall. Good coverage of many years in the near future without making readers feel as if they’ve missed something.
