Ughhhhh, I’m frustrated. This concept is so cool and I thought the book started out really strong, but the ending sort of ruined it for me. The “resolution” to the main conflict felt really rushed, and the last few chapters were just not necessary. I think the story could have instead benefitted from an epilogue depicting what the world was like 10 or 15 years into the future.
I’m still unsure of how I feel, but overall this did keep my interest, and for the most part I enjoyed my reading (listening) experience.

I read this in half a day - it’s super engaging. But at the same time, the whole thing felt weirdly surface-level to me, even through it seemed like it was trying to be deeper in its ideas? Also, I found the ending to be quite dissatisfying.

Super interesting premise, but some things felt unbelievable to me, even for speculative fiction. I simply don't believe that in 25 years there would be no crime, no deaths, etc just because it was a population of women . Also, as usual, I'm frustrated by the portrayal of motherhood. It's upsetting to me that Ava went from being devastated about forced reproduction to totally fine with it because some sort of maternal instinct kicked in. As someone who really struggled with becoming a mother and what that means to my identity, I found this to be a super cheap and diminutive way of looking at it. I almost DNF'ed when that part came up, it pisses me off so much.
