Kurt Vonnegut

I get why this is considered a classic but there are better WWII satires out there. Not for me.

I love kurt, I just read this over too long i think so I didn't follow a lot of the recurring ideas oops. I like the tone and writing but towards the end I realized I wasn't following as much as I have his other books. Also hot take but war stories don't do it for me! It's just like yeah I agree it's fucking awful what now

Holy fuck what a heavy book.

quotes:

There is no beginning, no middle, no end, no suspense, no moral, no causes, no effects. What we love in our books are the depths of many marvelous moments seen all at one time.

I like that very much: “If the accident will.”

And I asked myself about the present: how wide it was, how deep it was, how much was mine to keep.

Billy was guided by dread and the lack of dread. Dread told him when to stop. Lack of it told him when to move again. He stopped.

His prose was frightful. Only his ideas were good.

Practically nobody on Earth is an American.

Billy got off his lounge chair now, went into the bathroom and took a leak. The crowd went wild.

Unexpectedly, Billy Pilgrim found himself upset by the song and the occasion. He had never had an old gang, old sweethearts and pals, but he missed one anyway

“Everything is all right, and everybody has to do exactly what he does. I learned that on Tralfamadore.”

My second time reading, the last time was in high school. When most dudes get into Vonnegut. It still holds up. Still a beautiful, funny, wonderful book.
