immediately going on my list of all time faves. the book has earned its rightful place as *the* anti-war novel, but that label is also why I never reached for it (as someone who generally doesn't enjoy novels about the world wars).

This little tome is an exploration of time, grief, mental health, and the terrible things we as humans do to ourselves and others - you could argue all that is encompassed in being anti-war, but you'd be surprised (imo).

and it's all wrapped up in this delightful break with conventional storytelling! definitely going to be visiting more Vonnegut!

this is an anti-war book but i think that is the least interesting part of it. this is one of the best representations i've experienced for the lengths a brain will go to, to protect itself. a brain trying to make sense of so many traumatic events.

the interconnected-ness of everything really makes you feel like you are experiencing all of billy’s life at once, time overlapping,

like you are a tralfamadorian.

to me this book felt a bit like a memoir, i had to remind myself billy wasn’t real because i felt so immersed and billy felt like such a whole and complete person to me.

the first chapter from the author helped me so much going into this book. i think it added so much to the story. i really like the way the author was interspersed throughout. the author being a character in billy’s story was such a special touch.

i was sobbing my way through chapter 4.

I didn't enjoy this too much.. not that I hated it but I felt like the anti-war message was too subtle and the humor wasn't funny enough. I'd almost call it mediocre.

It's always interesting to read one of a friend's favorite books, because the whole time I'm reading I'm wondering why. And sometimes I can tell, and I love the book more for it, and sometimes it's like this book--not sure I can piece it together with what I know of the friend.
