(3.5) I think I would’ve liked this book more if I didn’t absolutely loathe Julia with the passion of 1,000 burning suns. I kept getting drawn into the story and the characters, and then we would jump back to Julia’s perspective and I would get so angry. Overall, I’m not convinced the author of this book has sisters, because the relationship between the sisters was both idealized beyond reality but also shockingly lacking in consideration.

This is the worst book I've read in years.
It started alright, so that's what the one star is for.
Then it became worse and worse.
It's totally foreseeable, full of cliches, too long, has the tone of a story taking place in the 1950s/60s/70s, although it takes place in the 1980s/90s/2000s and it is so full of pathos, it's dripping from the pages. And its attitude is borderline offensive.
If this wouldn't have been for my own hosted book club (not my pick), I would have bailed early on and that would have been a very wise decision.
