Thousand Autumns is different from the other danmei I’ve read before. It had a lot of historical context and I appreciate the effort that must have gone in to create a fantasy world on top of the historical. I will admit I was lost sometimes, but that is more to do with my own ignorance of 6th century BCE China. The story itself does not have the same humorous tone that other danmei I’ve read has, which made the contents of the story feel far more tragic in places.
That being said, I love Shen Qiao and I find his relationship with Yan Wushi fascinating and their dynamic interesting. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Very interesting story, already started with the 2nd volume. The illustrations are sooo pretty 😍
Political driven stories are not my favorite, plus the plot for this was all over with multiple issues occurring; Too many conflicts to keep up.
Another issue I had is the large cast of characters. Different names and their relationships keep dropping. I am convince that half of them are not important. They show up for a one or two scenes then never developed further or mentioned again. A few names have been dropped as if they are important characters but never show up. Sure they may reappear in the next volume, but there are only two more volumes listed for publishing. I don't think it's going to cover all the characters.
My last complaint is that important events keep happening off screen and then explained as exposition. I understand that other events can occur without the two main characters to witness, but it defeats the build up and tension. For example,
But I love the two main characters. Their interactions is what kept me reading. Yan Wushi's teasing and don't care attitude is hilarious and Shen's petty actions are adorable. I wish this a was character driven story and we can see more of them getting into shenanigans. They really ran with an interesting concept of Yan Wushi testing Shen's morality and philosophical theory that all human's are naturally evil. But I felt like they drop it to worry about the dozen other conflicts. I figured out if I didn't take the plot seriously, I actually enjoyed the book.
I'll keep reading, only for my sweet Shen and his sugar daddy Yan Wushi.

Shen's betrayal, the unification of the the three demon sects, collecting all five scrolls, the emperor's plan to start a war, other sect's secretive plans, Yan Wushi's goal, and now a family secret revealed during a birthday?Another issue I had is the large cast of characters.
