Great ending! I loved the way the black pages and notes on the nature of the death note slowly become significant.

Death Note raises many interesting questions about ethics, and crime and punishment, and the corrupting effects of power, that other reviewers have mentioned. It is darkly funny that Light/Kira was starting to contemplate punishing not just criminals, but 'people who do not live up to their potential'.

Nope, this is not the end I was waiting for, the meltdown! It does not go well with the determination of the character.

And on a side note, I hate the way females were depicted in this, at least one character should have been strong and not just a tool for the plot.

Finally, it's done.

God this series started too strong, and that final volume was intense, with a bit of a satisfying ending, but the middle was almost a torture to get through. I felt a disconnect from the artist and the author, in regards of the repetitivness of some aspects of the story (going over their master plans over and over again in every chapter) sometimes, a few words say more than what they've done here, but they didn't get the memo.

The art was amazing throughout, especially in the Shinigami portrayel and some of the pyschotic depictions of Light, but it felt like it lost its purpose halfway through the series, and they hit a reset. It will always be one of the most original ideas I've seen in manga\anime, but it defintely had its problems.

This is the final volume of Death note, and I must say it was amazing. This whole series is in fact amazing. It has got a good amount of flaws, I will say that, but it was still so interesting and enjoyable to read. The whole thing about believing what is righteous is so compelling and gripping to read about. Light was the bad guy, while most of the others where good guys. In most of the volumes I was on the good guys side, but I must say that I was rooting a bit for Light. Not because I in any way support his views, but more because we had gotten to know him well and had followed him for so long.
Spoiler I loved when Light cracked. Sure, he had been calm and patient most of the series, but I feel like after feeling a lot of pressure to keep a part of you hidden for years, you might start to freak out a bit once the whole thing is revealed and it's all about to end. I think it was done in a very good way. Ryuk writing Light's name in the Death note was the perfect way to make Light die. It made sense for Light's life to end like that. I would have been so pissed if Near had killed him or if Light had only been captured.
I do believe that this series could have been okay without some parts of the story, and it would have been fine if it had ended earlier.
Spoiler I do not believe that there were a huge need to keep going after L's death. I do actually like where the story went after that, but I do still believe that the story could have been wrapped up around volume 7/8 with Light dying, and also maybe L. Not that I ever wanted L dead, but it makes sense to kill of a major character at some point, and if both of them died, it would be quite the book.
I do feel like it was time to end the series at some point, but I'm sad that there will not be more about a couple of characters, mostly Matsuda and Ryuk. Those were my favorites of the entire series.

Well, that concludes a week of Death note.

What an ending! I remember my first time witnessing all the twists and turns of the final chapter, I was so emotional, and very satisfied. I also love that no matter who's side you're on, it's up in the air who's going to win, and it would be quite difficult to predict the outcome.
Spoiler I'm still sad that L wasn't able to Light finally get his comeuppance, but alas, we can't have it all.
Overall really great, one of my all-time favorite series.
