That was beautiful. Specially chapter eight from The Spring of My Life, it almost made me cry. I read this before going to bed so maybe I’ll dream of a chestnut tree buried under the snow.

A few favorites:

The old dog listens
intently, as if to the
work songs of the worms

Pretending wisdom,
a man tells a woman all
about the eclipse

In the old temple,
even the snake has shed
his worldly skin

Mosquito larvae
are idle - like me today,
like me tomorrow

The cranes cry in vain
late into night: no blanket
can thaw this cold world

That fat toad looks like
he just burped a huge cloud
filling the sky

With each lightning flash,
each roll of the thunder, rice and
the world grow richer

flutters past - my body feels
the dust of ages"
