I thought this book was very sweet, I wish I had read it as a kid because I definitely would have loved it. Emma and Eadric have a fun dynamic and I enjoyed the variety of animal side characters.
I did, however, think the writing was mean spirited at times when describing characteristics that were meant to be ugly. I really didn't like that, in order for Emma to get the chance to test her magic skills, Grassina had to prioritize her beauty of all things over Emma's wellbeing. The curse on their family in general just rubs me the wrong way and I feel like there could have been so many other situations where Grassina wouldn't have been able to help Emma .
I also thought the pacing toward the end was a bit strange until I realized that that it's actually part of a larger series. Maybe I will continue the series whenever I'm in the mood for something lighthearted again.

This was the most gripping book I had ever read when I was 8-9. It's a cute book. I still enjoyed it though. There were some funny moments throughout. Overall I'd recommend this for younger kids. It's perfect for them.

Cute and fun. Retelling of the Frog Prince. What if when the princess and the frog kissed, the princess turned into a frog? Yes, this was written before the Disney "The Princess and the Frog." Disney ripped E.D. Baker off for the idea. She should have gotten credit. The book is a billion times better, with no voodoo and set in a fantasy world. Lovely! It's an easy but wholly enjoyable read.
This book is about princess Emma who is the princess of Greater Greensward. One day she encounters a frog in the swamp. The frog claims to be prince Eadric from Upper Montevista and he also claims that only a kiss from a princess will turn him back into himself. When Emma agrees and kisses him, something goes wrong. Instead of turning the frog back into a prince, she gets turned into a frog.
This book is a funny book full of interesting characters and a lot of adventures. It's also riddled with references to fairytales. I like twists on normal fairytales which is why I enjoyed this series so much while I was growing up. Nothing is as it seems in these books. They're always surprising you with new outlooks on old stories. All in all it's a very enjoyable, quick read.
The Frog Princess is the first book in E.D. Baker's book series. But it was actually the second book I read in the series. Not knowing about this book, but being intrigued by the title of the second book in the series, Dragon's Breath, I picked it up and read it. Afterwards I found out about this book. This was my third time reading this book. I read it again so I could finish the series (which wasn't completely out the last time I read this book).
I thing I would say that bothers me the most about his book is Eadric. (He also continues to be the most annoying thing to me in all of the following books.) I know you shouldn't dislike one of the main characters so much but he really gets under my skin. I don't know what Emma finds so endearing about him. If I had been her I probably would have squished him when I first met him. Well that was an exaggeration. But I wouldn't have kept going back and talking to him. Even when she finds him annoying in the beginning she's still willing to seek him out and talk to him again. She probably only likes him because he's not Prince Jorge (whom is a self centered prince that is mentioned at the beginning of this book). Eadric is just so loud and annoying and pestering. And he never stops eating. He acts like an idiot around food. And when he's not around it too. But more so when he is near it.
Excluding Eadric I really do enjoy this book. It's silly and full of surprises. I would recommend it to anyone who loves fairytales. But it's definitely for girls around the ages 6-12.
I give this book 4/5 stars for when I first read it and loved it when I was 10-ish. But If I read it now for the first time I would have given it 3/5.

This book was promising and I loved the fact that Emma was realistic and seemed like a normal teenage girl. This seemed closely enough like the Disney film The Princess and the Frog and I think this book was the inspiration for it. It was a little boring at some parts but was rather entertaining. Worth a try to read.
The Frog Princess was probably THE book that made me love reading, and made my love for fairy tales blossom into what it is today. I have my late 5th grade English teacher to thank for introducing me to this book. I heard she passed away last week, and I couldn't think of any way to honor her memory aside from rereading this beautiful book.
There isn't much I can say about this book, but it's so easy to read and follow and it's full of magic.

My ten year old daughter loves the books in this series and suggested that I read them, so I began reading the first one. . . My thoughts for the first 100 pages were mostly that I was getting too old to enjoy this kind of fiction. Then, the story improved and I ended up enjoying it. Emalee has already asked me to read the next one so we "can talk about it." :-)
Still a banger, 5/5 stars
It’s actually a book that clips along at a good pace, considering it’s 214 pages it must do, but I never felt entirely rushed while reading it. Emma did start to fall in love w/ Eadric rather fast, like pretty pretty quickly, but it wasn’t a swooning one and done moment at all. Just a quick, though entertaining build up
