A delightful sequel! The two things I loved most: the enormous range of diversity presented, and the playful words. Who can resist a unicorn named Frimplepants?

This is a very charming book that will shatter your expectations of a princess in pink. I particularly liked seeing all of the diverse princesses from different lands and their respected region mounts. Great book for kids who are just starting to work their way into junior level material. ~Ashley

Another fun installment in this series and a great look at how being a superhero is hard work.
Edit in 2020: kiddo #2 is in LOVE with this book and we’ve read it every night for a while.

Me gusta este volumen. Los diseños de las otras doce princesas están maravillosas, y me encantan sus animales también. No pienso que la fiesta estaba perfecta, pero entiendo que la princesa Magnolia se siente feliz con sus amigas, y eso es muy lindo.

Princess Magnolia has some major close calls in this one! Because of that, I was so worried for Princess Magnolia throughout the book which kept me on the edge of my seat. Like the first one, I rooted for her the entire book and love that she can be both a dainty, frilly princess and a kick-butt, monster-fighting princess. I think she is such a wonderful role model for girls and a great role model OF girls for all readers. I also adore the illustrations. They are so colorful and animated. Everyone is going to enjoy the newest Princess in Black.

Princess Magnolia has a big secret. She is the Princess in Black that protects her kingdom from the monsters who want to cause trouble by eating the goats. Sometimes, though, she wants to have a regular life and do princess things, particularly on her birthday. Every time she goes to open presents with her party guests, the princess from other countries, her glitter-stone ring sounds an alarm to tell her that she needs to go fight a monster. She has to keep her guests from finding out that she is the Princess in Black by coming up with other activities, and finally it takes giving a monster a stern lecture before she is able to enjoy her birthday party the way she wants to.
This book is a mix between a picture book and a chapter book, including lots of pictures to break up the text, which could be useful for readers who want to read more advanced books but may not be quite there yet. Magnolia is an excellent character to show that girls can like pink and pretty things while still being the hero of the story fighting the bad guys. One of the most amusing parts of the book is the names for her fighting moves like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Smash” and “Tiara Trip”. For fans of the first Princess in Black or those new to these series, this book will be a hit to show how much princesses can really do.

A fun one where princess Magnolia's birthday party keeps getting interrupted by the monster alarm. I really enjoyed this one, and so did David.
