This book was too long for its content and could have been half the size. It had some interesting points but repeated it's ideas a lot. Ultimately a fiction about a feminist magazine; predictable but enjoyable.

Overall a good book. However there are times where you the general story is affected by the introduction and description of so many characters at a time. However it was entertaining and I really got inside the story.

Feel bad about rating it any lower but it’s a long book with little story that isn’t able to justify its length. 
There were lots of boring parts and for it having such rave reviews i thought it lacked depth.

The ending feels rushed, like it had to be all crammed into the last chapter & wrapped up with a bow. Otherwise, the rest of the story is very good.

I read it so slowly (and resented that I needed to finish it before downloading any new library books to my kindle because the loan had expired so it would disappear if I turned on the wifi).

As I closed this book, all I found myself really thinking was, “That was fine.” And that’s where it landed for me. At almost 500 pages long, I expected some deep character development/change/growth and it felt like there was surprisingly little.

Some of the turns of phrase were absolutely masterful though so seeing those moments just made me bummed for the lack of them.

It didn’t quite contend with what it was trying to tackle (generational changes in feminism, ambition, relationships, etc.) and while it did a good job creating complex and flawed characters, it just fell flat when it came to showing us them, though there was no lack of telling.

All in all, I’ll definitely read more of her work, but this one was middling for me!

I enjoyed how this book focused on the same characters throughout different parts of their lives, examining how people change over time and how that affects relationships. All with an excellent side dose of strong female characters.

While I enjoyed this book, I think some key issues in its story bonds between women of different generations. The novel does not deal with the changing roles/expectations across different generations. I think this can be a major source of stress among women of different generations.
