I had high expectations for this but couldn’t get on board with the characters. It was only right at the end that I loved Nazneen, and thought the ending was perfect.

About 1/2 way through, I had to call it quits on this book. It was slow and dull. The story seemed similar to The Blood of Flowers or A Thousand Splendid Suns, but I just never got into it. I enjoyed these other books much more and found the stories more engaging and characters more likable. I had no interest in finding out what happened to the characters in this book at all. SIGH.

Beautifully written and a beautiful story. I felt fully immersed in Nazneen’s world and was rooting for her. Although the jumps all ove the place were sometimes a bit confusing. Don’t know if I just didn’t understand things but  felt like things needed to be clearer sometimes. Like I’m not sure now if her mother
killed herself or was also having an affair?
Also took me so long to read as nothing happened in the start and I had to push through. Good immersion into a culture I had little experience with but the actual writing could have been better.
