I've never read a book like this one before. You were totally engrossed in her mind, her world and with tiny breadcrumbs you could piece together the story. Eleanor's character development was brilliant. I cried multiple times while reading this book.

Lots of dry British humor. Guess I’ve been through a lot because I didn’t find her current state or her past particularly depressing; that’s life. If you’re quick to find things depressing don’t read this book.

It took me a long time to read this book but I really enjoyed it towards the middle and end. As someone entering the social welfare field, he perspective on Dr. Temple ending appointments so abruptly is something I will carry with me into my work. I cringed at some of the things she said and thought, which made it hard to like her toward the beginning of the book but she grows on you so quickly. I also felt the same way about Raymond’s character but I learned along the way that it was fully intentional. Sometimes the people you eventually hold most dear are people you may not have chosen or been aware what was happening and then BAM, they become the person you can tell anything to and trust them with your raw and vulnerable parts. I want to stress the trigger warnings on this book because I didn’t take them into much consideration but
her suicidality brought back terrible memories of my own similar experience with clinical depression and loneliness
. Take care of yourself while reading this book but also know that it will make you smile and cry at the same time.

Eleanor was I insufferable at the beginning,  but I am glad I pushed through the first chapters and got to know her more. And boy did the book took a twist. Also, the audio edition was a great choice as the reader does a wonderful job.
