I wasn't sure what I was getting into with this one but man did it end up being great. Hearing from each woman in first person was a fun way to get their stories across. And I love that the stories weren't necessarily straightforward...it felt grounded, though. Like these could be women you know. What a great read.

I went into this book blind! I saw it at the book store, had my attention but left it. Popped up on my social media and took it as a sign I had to read it. Half way through as an audio book I ended up buying because I knew I’d want to reread this.

The ending wasn’t what I was anticipating so I was a tad disappointed but that is my own doing by filling in blanks that didn’t need to be filled. Such a cool concept, having a modern twist on beloved fairytales but let’s give them MORE trauma (let’s face it, fairytales are pretty dark already) and make them do a group therapy session! The twists were delicious, made me feel all emotions (most anger and sympathy). Such a cool book.

Finished this book in a day because I was immediately obsessed with this strange modern retelling of fairytales. 5 women meet in a basement red room telling stories that are both familiar and new. Each women a classic character rebirthed and all of them struggle to tell the story they lived vs the story everybody expects. This book shockingly brought me close to tears.
