I have always been a huge fan of historical romances, and Dunmore's take on the genre definitely did not disappoint! The heroine, Annabelle Archer, is a strong, independent character who isn't overly in your face about it and who is so charismatically witty the reader can't help but laugh out loud at some of her well-timed quips. Her verbal sparing partner is the stoic Duke of Montgomery, a Mr. Darcy on all counts. The pair clash on many fronts only to find that deep down, they really do have so much in common. A modern Pride and Prejudice in its own right, Bringing Down the Duke is a delightful page turner that will leave you craving more from Evie Dunmore.

Really enjoyed and zipped through but thought there was a bit too much back and forth and that it was longer than it needed to be
What a sensuous, smart and utterly romantic story.
Love stories like this fuel dreams and imaginations for centuries.
I didn’t want this story to end. It could have gone on for more books with ease. Amazing that some stories that are made into a series of books only needed the one to be told, while other stories told in only one book had so much more to tell.
I so enjoyed the sharp intellect and sharper temperament of the main character Annabelle.
Most definitely based on any number of women in the 1800’s who were smart, learned and yearned for freedom, respect and recognition as equals. Something, sadly, we are still fighting for.
This story features one of our earliest freedom fighters who is orphaned, comes from nothing and works as a maid in her cousins home.
Through a great deal of hard work and a promise to work in the Women’s Suffrage movement, she gains entrance and a stipend to Oxford as one of its first female students.
Then her world collides with Montgomery, a calculating, sharp and intelligent Duke who maintains control in all matters that pertain to him and his household, until Annabelle happens like an event of Mother Nature wreaking havoc on his life.
The essence of this story is love with all of its abandon, absence of thought and reason. But, I really enjoyed the history of the early days of the Suffrage movement swirled into it.
This was a passion-filled, sexy read and I loved it. But, at its core it is a timeless story of true love and the lengths we will go to have it, protect it, keep it.
Sebastian and Annabelle are written with such chemistry, the pages burn. They are each other’s match and their love is of fairy-tale proportions.
We all need a little “Once Upon a Time…” to light the coals of our dormant hearts, hearts that have succumb to the busyness of this world, the chaos of the everyday, and the loneliness in a world teeming with people.

This one had me wishing to live in a romance period piece.
Absolutely loved this story. I enjoyed all the characters and the romance. So good. Montgomery + Annabelle
I’m in love with Sebastian and kicked my feet with glee many times
Thoroughly enjoyed this book! The author's touch is light, yet meaningful, and the content is really engaging.
This period in history is usually seen through the lens of intensity and dedication to a higher cause - as it should be. However, the perfect balance between friendship, personal growth, romance, and ambitions does exist, as this author conveys so well. This is my second time reading it, and have found it just as charming and insightful as the first time.
Would strongly recommend to readers who enjoy historic romance, but with some existential weight to it.
