3.5 or 4. The book started out ok for me but I got invested quickly. I love regency romances. This is about Annabelle, a vicar's daughter who goes to Oxford to study. It was in the late 1800's when women were just allowed to go to school. She gets a scholarship joining the women's suffrage movement. They are trying to get passed a marriage act so that all their possessions do not go to their husbands. She runs into the Duke and tries to get him on her cause. And of course, this spurns the forbidden romance that society at that time does not allow. A commoner with royalty. There are three other interconnected books which I will read. Enjoyed this.

For what this was, it was entertaining. I was expecting more historical fiction vs. romance but it is what it is. Minimal eye rolling needed.

A light-hearted, quick read, perfect for the summer! Some parts of the plot felt rushed and the characters weren't all particularly developed, specifically the other ladies of the story who I think all have interesting stories to be told. However, I got everything I was looking for in a historical romance set in late 1800s England including a dark and brooding Duke and a lady with a brain who isn't afraid to use it.
