I really liked to read about the gender problems and activism in this book while following a smart woman falling in love with a smart man. Both their flaws were prominent, but I didn't mind it as much as I sometimes do. They both made their emotional not so smart choices, but that also was logical for the storyline that someone cannot be always radical and levelheaded. I enjoyed this book and would recommend.
took me by surprise! this was a library staff recommendation and was so, so good!

okay so who was going to tell me historical romances could be this good
i loved this. genuinely had such a good timing reading it. i don't know why i've been so scared of trying historical romances? i'm literally a history grad and serial romance reader - its a match made in heaven. but i think i've been worried that these kind of books would feel too old and stuffy in tone. that a romance set in the past couldn't possibly compare to the contemporary romances which are my bread and butter. i kind of imagined them all like pride and prejudice, which i just could not read. it wouldn't be right for a historic book to be written like a modern one either, so in my head i guess it just didn't work for me. and i was so wrong!!! if all historic romances are like this one, sign me the fuck up.
this book really just had everything. the historic setting was SO good, the tension was off the charts (as was the spice which i kind of didn't think it would be), the storyline was so interesting. the characters were interesting and had enough depth to keep the story rolling, and i actually really enjoyed the women's rights / oxford subplot. the stakes felt high enough without being too intense for a romance.
i really thoroughly enjoyed this book. i was really craving something different to my usual types, but didn't want to stray far from romance. the issue with having read 95+ books this year is that, after a while, you do get bored. i generally don't mind that romance books often feel quite similar, but i really was in desperate need of a change when i picked this one up. i think reading the Rose Bargain kind of made me crave a Bridgerton vibe book, and this seemed different enough to feel like a change from my usual. i'm so happy i picked it up, and i will be reading the rest of the series. my first historical romance but definitely not my last!!

I don’t really have anything to say about this other than that I enjoyed it, kept me engaged while my baby napped on me
Pride and prejudice core but with more intense yearning. Would read again.
Takes a little bit to get into but eventually the laughter takes hold.
I think I would’ve liked this better if the back and forth wasn’t so dragging. I also found it weird that we were given the month + year and then it just… stopped… which made it hard to tell what the timeline was. I loved how insane Annabelle was!! Sebastian… I’m side eyeing a little.
This was a cute and easy read. Fluffy but the setting of Oxford was fun. I did enjoy the historical aspects that were brought into the book.
