It's been almost 18 months since I read the first two books in this series, so why the heck not try to jump back into it? Of course, it does take place right after the end of the first two books, so if you're not familiar or, like me, can't remember what exactly happened...probably a good idea to brush up. All that said, Saving Verakko was fun, pretty light hearted, and predictable. There's the forced proximity situation, escaping alien abductors, trying to survive in the jungle on an alien planet, and a grumpy green hottie. There's a touch of angst (character's inner conflict), miscommunication, other woman tension, will they/won't they kind of slow burn vibe going on. Just the sort of thing I wanted to read in the moment. I had a good time; enough to dive into the next book in the series to see if it's worth continuing.

This is science fiction romance with an alien love interest... Sooo🤷‍♀️...if you're interested, read on! ☺️

rating : Saving Verakko gets ⭐⭐⭐.75 from me ;
format in which i read them : #audiobook

CW: kidnapping, lying by omission, manipulation as special ability, near death experiences in nature

romance trope : miscommunication and forced proximity ; arranged marriage and fated mates

This book is all about trust and honest communication, with a heavy dose of choice; is about priorities and what is important for the people in the relationship...not to mention how all those weight against what seems to be a temporary one👀
The atmosphere is perfect, Saving Verakko being full of tension as it is a survival story.
The world building is once again rich with landscapes, animals, customs, society norms, religious beliefs and political intrigue. (Or at least the beginning of it🤭)
I will reiterate what I said to previous books...the stories emphasize mutual respect, getting to know each other and working together through problems! 😌🤌

My only issue with these was the fact that the male character are way more developed and frankly deserve better partner 🤷‍♀️... I understand why our FMC is the way she is...with issues, backstory and distinct personalities, but I didn't find her ideal for the guy 🥲..call me crazy 🤷‍♀️

Fave things : the bling-bling lifestyle of Verakko's hometown 😂 while they refuse adopting new tech🤣;

Anyway..I highly recommend trying the audiobook for this as the voice actor is top notch! Also, the story is perfect as a cleanser between heavier reads with a 50/50 approach with romance and plot!

I’m not really vibing with the two mcs. It’s sitting at maybe 3 stars and I don’t really think it’s worth continuing. I might come back to it at some point.

my oh my, i LOVE the “we’re stuck together traveling through *insert rough ecosystem away from civilization* and we’re hot for each other but ‘not gonna act on it’” situation!!! this one delivered on that front wholeheartedly. i was really liking this one, just as much as book 1, but the whole public declaration at the end pulled me out bc i truly hate them. this also tiptoed the line of an OW situation, not drama, but i ended up being okay with it.

⚠️: kidnapping, violence, confinement, blood, vomit, death, trafficking

I loved the first half, the wilderness survival, forced proximity, protector aspect, all excellent. Then a few of my more disliked tropes reared their heads, BUT I still enjoyed the experience nonetheless. Probably won't get a reread because it was so frustrating in parts, but I loved exploring this world more.

Characters: 8/10
These two leads definitely felt unique. I loved that it was our heroine who had all the wilderness knowledge, and it was integrated into her backstory in an interesting way. Also some great side characters! I loved the female friendship instead of competition.

Atmosphere: 10/10
Great descriptions of the forest and a different alien city. I love how much world building is being added on with each book in the series.

Writing: 8/10
Still solid writing.

Plot: 7/10
I loved the part in the wilderness, and while I was sucked in by the drama, I do really really dislike infidelity and miscommunication tropes. Even though they were handled in, probably, the best possible way, it still gave me a gross feeling.

Intrigue: 9/10
Definitely compelling - internally screaming at them both the whole time.

Logic: 9/10
I liked how every choice was backed up by reason, characters weren't just doing things for the drama. Her wilderness knowledge was explained but she wasn't superhuman about it. You understood why he didn't give her the full details of their situation, and she was also justified in her emotions. Things developed at a good pace, considering the circumstances.

Entertainment: 7/10
I loved the first half, then felt a little uncomfy for a bit (the aforementioned tropes) but really enjoyed the last quarter too, and the satisfaction made the less enjoyable part worth it.

Total rating: 8.29/10
