My rating is the average of Adult Amanda's (two stars) and 9-year-old Amanda's (four stars). This book was diverting and the young characters didn't completely annoy me, but I could not get on board with the "quarry speak". This won a Newbery? I can see how it would be appealing to young girls, though, and, while not the American Girl books of my youth, is not the worst book written for that set.

The bad it’s came so far in the book but Shannon did a great job at explaining what was going on in the few chapters that it had happed in. I am very excited to read the next ok because this book left me on such a cliff. Maybe it was even mount Eskles cliff

I just finished re-reading this book. It is so wonderful and so well written. I love how the characters and their world and their problems become real to me as I read. I like how it's almost like a fairy tale, but not quite.

Content: Clean - a little violence

This was one of my all time favorite book as a child and even now I still love this book! I'm ecstatic that there will be a second book and cannot wait for the release!

I listened to this on audio, and it had different actors for the different characters, which was really fun. The story itself I thought was just okay.

This Newbery Honor book is for young adults, and deals with courage and being true to yourself. I think my 13-year-old niece would really like it.
