Despite knowing from the get go who the killer was (owing only to my long history of watching the film adaptations) I actually still thoroughly enjoyed reading this - which I was not expecting.
This was meant to be one of those books you read just for the sake of saying you’ve read it, rather than actually wanting to know the story. But going along I was really feeling content reading this and found it almost strangely comforting (though that may be because this was one of the first Miss Marple’s I had ever seen).
Pleasant and interesting with added twists that never made it to the screen.

I love Agatha Christie. And there a just a handful of her titles I haven't yet read. This was one of them. And I decided to listeread it, although I am pretty sure I will read it in print at some point.
As I started listereading this title I realized I had seen a screen version - quite a long time ago. Parts of it seemed familiar to me so I really enjoyed listereading it.
"The mirror crack'd from side to side; 'The curse is come upon me,' cried The Lady of Shalott." American film star Marina Gregg has settled down in St. Mary Meade, home to Miss Jane Marple. At a welcoming fete, one of Ms. Gregg's enthusiastic British fans falls down dead - a victim of poison. Miss Marple wasn't in attendance but that doesn't mean she can't figure out what happened and whodunnit.

#ReadChristie2023 - April Selection
Theme: Method - Poison

PHEW! I just managed to get my April Read Christie selection in before the end of the month

I've always preferred Miss Marple's books compared to Poirot - I find her far more interesting, though some of her stories are certainly duller due to the fact that she is an old lady and less prone to travelling all over the world. I found this book very interesting, despite Miss Marple taking a backseat to the majority of the crime solving.

I am still a bit peeved that my brain reminded me half way through the book that I had indeed, read this years ago, and the details of the murder and who committed it came back to me, spoiling the surprise. Still, I always find that if you go into these books and pick the least obvious person as the murderer, generally your assumptions are correct - though when I say least obvious, I do also mean 'too obvious so your brain tells you it can't be'.

Nonetheless, it also reminded me why I was such an avid fan of Agatha Christie in high school. There is an absolute skill in being able to write a murder mystery, dropping hints here and there without making it too obvious up front, but at the same time leaving enough hints to the reader so that they could potentially solve the crime themselves. It's really is thrilling to read her stories, though I feel that once you've read about ten of them, you've basically read them all.

"It's not just a question of threats. Threatened men live long, as they say."

An interesting read that had moments and phrases that didn't age well.

I felt early on that I had an idea who the perpetrator was, and was thrilled at the end to watch my theory come together! Even having the feeling of already knowing, the story held my attention and I flew through the pages following the clues.

My first Miss Marple story and it has me interested in picking up more!
