I really enjoyed this Miss Marple book. I’m very proud of myself for figuring out the ending! It was still very engaging and I really enjoyed the characters.

There's so much I loved about this book. Miss Marple herself plays a significant role right from the start, which always makes the books featuring her so much more fun and interesting, and this one has the added bonus of also being set back in St Mary Mead. As always, the mystery is clever, layered, and compelling, and whilst I did figure out aspects of it than I generally do, I still didn't do so until fairly late in the game and was definitely kept guessing (and hooked) for much of the way through. There's also a lot of excellent commentary in this one around society, social change, and ageing.
My only gripe is that this ends up being pretty teeming with ableism. Even trying to view it through a 1960s context, the content in question is still pretty inexcusable, and it did taint my experience of this book a bit. I still really enjoyed it overall, but I just wish that that side of things had been dealt with in a more nuanced way. If it had, this would've been at least a 4* read!

Bit racist, classist, and the rage Miss Marple feels at being old and infirm felt like the real Christie's anger showing. But top notch for trickiness of solution and dialogue as always
