mysterious tense medium-paced

My mom gave me spoilers about this book but i decided to read it anyway. Not disappointed

Read years ago but I was watching the movie and I remembered that I had read the book too.

I think I probably enjoyed this more than others because Miss Marple figures largely in it. She's in amongst the action from the very beginning and is active in her pursuit of the murderer despite being termed "frail" by the help her nephew Raymond has provided for her comfort. Thankfully her friends and a new cleaner recognize that Jane Marple may look old but is as shrewd as ever.

In the book we remain in St Mary Mead where the doctor tells Miss Marple she needs to get involved in a nice juicy murder to keep her spirits up. Thankfully one happens shortly after and despite a few wrong turns (thanks mainly to unreliable reporting) Miss Marple triumphs.

If you've seen the adaptations you'll know the end but Thankfully I'd forgotten exactly what happened.

As with other Marples it is clear in whose camp Mrs Christie stood. She made Marple her contemporary and just as clear thinking.

I love Marple books much more than Poirots I'm afraid. I love the character of the old village busybody with a mind like a steel trap. If you're paying attention and you've not seen the film then you might work it out.

5 stars simply because this is Marple at her best.

Yay Miss Marple! A very typical Agatha Christie novel, just what I was expecting. My favorite component was the poetry reference, the Lady of Shallot. It gave the piece a melodramatic flair that tickled my fancy. Isn't it fun to see how English people write Americans? Short tempered and practical to a fault and curt. I will say that the twist in this one, though unexpected, was a tad darker than usual.

3.5/5

Recomendado.
