I really really loved this and didn't expect to. There were just so many different things that people talked about or said that I know after I move back home and no longer live in London I'm going to miss, but it's still going to feel like inside jokes to me.
You don't really know a city until you live there (obviously), but you don't know London until you love it, hate it, and become this weird part of it.

The selections were illuminating and sometimes inspiring, good for taking off rose colored glasses of a limited view of London, know the good, the bad and the ugly.

I had a tough time taking this book seriously. It was very negative and mostly focused on the East End.
Ultimately, I think the negative picture painted was deliberate. The interviewer could have drawn from a more diverse set of people instead of focusing on the struggling/poor of the East End. This doesn’t paint a full picture of London as there are massive demographics and boroughs omitted.
In terms of readability, I think it would have worked better as a television interview segment than a book. Some of the stories were interesting but most dragged and didn’t seem to add anything. Overall, it was a bit of a chaotic presentation and the effect was a bit rambling.
Ultimately, if you read this book, I reckon it should be taken with a grain of salt. Don’t let it dissuade you from visiting London!

This book is just okay. I got tired of reading interviews of young people who seemed to be pretty clueless.

Oh, I forgot I read this this spring. Actually i read like 3/4 of it. But whatever! It is actually a MARVELOUS way to learn about things that happen in England--ways of life, etc.--some of the time. I have told so many people about Transport for London's Lost and Found and The Knowledge and people who hide in lorries to emigrate. It's so fascinating. And then the rest of the time it's like, "my girlfriend stole my car, I had to go to Surrey to get it back, I wanted a Cornish Pasty, my mum called," and you have to really commend Craig Taylor for committing to his purpose and skip ahead to the next one.
So, A+ effort, A- execution.

3.5. This is perhaps more enjoyable if you have a personal experience with London.
