This is the first book of Kawakami that I read. Japanese authors always wrote beautifully and descriptive. It twisted the knots in my guts and create heartbreaking scenes. I think every teenagers need to read this book, just to pique their interest on moral value for every actions and its consequences.

I could not understand kojima’s way of thinking at all at times, but not much to say except that it’s sad. What bullies are able to get away with at school is insane.

A rough read for me. The escalating bullying was tough and then getting through one of the bully's philosophy on why they bully was infuriating. Heartbreaking discussions on self-concept, self-worth, and friendship within the context of its victims.
