The Poisonwood Bible is one of the most quietly majestic books I have ever read. It encompasses an entire continent and a few hundred years of its history, while still being a story of one family over 30-40 years. It touches on daily life and the lives of nations, weaving them together beautifully and horribly. It exposes the innocence and culpability inherent in all of us, as well as the guilt and grace of life.

I’m a different person for having read this book. Wow. Truly amazing. It’s a book everyone should read at least once. It’s a confronting read, and the author really doesn’t pull punches, and I respect that. It was the story that needed to be told.

I will take a few days to really consider my full thoughts and feelings on this story, and write a full review then.

I put off reading this for a while because I don't generally like general fiction, but this was pretty good. I cared about the characters and the world the author set up, and feel like I learned something about the Congo and Africa. Some of the end of the book felt tacked on, and it maybe should have ended 100 pages earlier, but overall it was worth the read.
