Interesting premise, catching opening, but overall it's kinda...boring.

Anyone who knows me will not be surprised when I say at 518 pp this book was toooooo long! This reads a lot like a Jack Reacher novel but dragged out.

I liked it! This stand alone book can be safely cataloged as a Light Action Thriller. Let me be clear, this is NOT a romance, so if you're expecting anything romantic, you will be greatly disappointed. At best there's a pinch of romance, but this story is planted firmly in the action thriller sub genre.

This story follows Julianna (a.k.a Oleander, a.k.a. The Chemist, a.k.a Alex) a former government biological chemical engineer/Interrogator/torturer. She doesn't know what for or why, but her former boss cuts her loose, and she narrowly escapes being killed, three times. She's been living off the grid for three years, when an opportunity for a fresh start is presented. But when things are too good to be true, it usually is. And so Alex finds herself teaming up with another ex-black-ops clandestine agent to solve why they're former bosses want them both dead. Throw in explosions, fighting, near escapes, biological personal weapons, security trained dogs, one armored vehicle, twins, and a tiny pinch of romance, cause all action thriller characters need to let off steam ;)

The Chemist is not a deep mind blowing read. Its like reading your fourth Grisham or Clancy novel - been-there-done-that-predictable, but just as tasty and entertaining with interesting characters and plot. The Chemist is a bit long, but its definitely entertaining and reads quickly. I got through 60% of the book before blinking. But about 78% into the book, I admit, I was getting impatient for a conclusion.
