Literally nothing happens. Everybody is nice, there’s no conflict, no one is greedy or conniving…it was a wonderfully placid experience. I’ll continue the series, but not because I was impressed by the writing.
Pleasant, innocuous science fiction story. I didn't mind all the details, and I read the character as somewhat neurodivergent.
This is a great book. I thought it was going to be just another space opera but boy was I surprised. Readers have compared David Weber's book [b:On Basilisk Station|35921|On Basilisk Station (Honor Harrington, #1)|David Weber|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1168651292s/35921.jpg|965345] to [b:Horatio Hornblower 1 - 11.|584330|Horatio Hornblower 1 - 11.|C.S. I really don’t understand how I enjoyed a book where literally nothing happens but here we are. Although it’s just a book about a guy going about his everyday sci-fi life, this book still manages to be fun and endearing enough to keep the pages turning.

For a book in which not much happens, I really enjoyed the story and characters. Sure a little action wouldn't have hurt, but it was refreshing to read about a group of people who are just nice, normal, hard-working, supportive, etc. Lowell did a very good job setting up a world and characters. I definitely want to know where the story goes from here.
I'm a huge fan of "cozy" and slice-of-life sci-fi writing, and heard about "Quarter Share" while looking for books like Kenneth Oppel's Airborn series and books by Becky Chambers. This book scratched that itch perfectly. It isn't anchored in any particular mission or goal -- it's an account of the average, everyday happenings among characters aboard a trading vessel traveling through space. An engaging bit of low-stress, sci-fi escapism for those who are weary of war stories, alien invasions, post-apocalypses, mind-control and time travel (and who are maybe very fond of the process of making coffee).
So, there's not much "plot" in this book, and I could see how others might think that it's boring, since a lot of it is about trading and how to make profit. I really enjoyed it, though. The optimistic, slice-of-life occurrences on a space freighter hit the spot and made for a fun comfort read.
