Thought provoking, but I didn't agree with all of Gay's opinions - like the part on trigger warnings. Really appreciated that she decided to include the part about the Utøya tragedy.

3.5. I enjoy short essays/stories/blog series, which is part of the reason I was drawn to this book. However, there were some notably uninteresting chapters in this essay series. Equally, there were some fascinating entries. The notion of being a bad feminist is confusing in this book as Gay seems to argue against essential feminism but then concedes to it but admitting that she is a "bad feminist" because she does not match the very essential feminism she is trying to dismantle. There are some great thoughts and opinions across this book and I would recommend, but it is certainly not the best thing I have ever read.

3.5. I want to be best friends with Roxane. She is so interesting and funny and thoughtful and real. however, I would have LOVED this book is she cut like one-third of the essays. she has moments of brilliance - I laughed, thought hard, and learned. but a lot of the "gender and sexuality" pieces didn't resonate with me. they were long winded, hypocritical and filled with obscure references.

PHEW this was a book and a half! Roxane Gay is intelligent, witty, honest, and leaves no stone unturned. i really enjoyed reading all of her essays - the ones based on her personal life made me really fall in love with her as a person and author, and then getting to read her dissection of much more dense material was thought-provoking, challenged my perspective on issues and shed light to one’s i’ll never personally experience. i learned a lot and enjoyed thinking harder about certain problems that exist in todays world. regardless of the heavy material, Roxane Gay still made me laugh and remained a consistently raw and candid narrative, calling out her own contradictions and flaws. 10/10 would recommend!!!

I really liked it though there are some parts of the book that i felt didn't belong and were totally unnecessary.
