A thoroughly enjoyable read. Oceans Eleven in middle school may seem far-fetched but Varian Johnson pulls it off with style. I flew through this book. I also enjoyed that it was set in my old stomping grounds of Columbus, Ohio and the geek in me loved all the Star Trek references. This was a very fun book.

I LOVED this book! I loved everything about it--the characters, the writing style, the content, the way it ended. It was a fun and feel good read from start to finish!

The Great Greene Heist is super entertaining!! I reread it in about four hours one night and enjoyed it!
I think Jackson Greene was my favorite character. He has some of the charm of Flynn Rider, but he’s already been burned once and starts off trying to be good. I liked his friends and their group interactions, and Jackson and Gaby’s love story is super cute!
I do find it a little hard to believe that the principal of a school would willingly interfere in a student election just to gain money. However, it made for a good plot point and helped move the story along.
If you’re looking for a fun, plot-twist filled story, The Great Greene Heist is for you!

I really, really wanted to like this more. The entire idea is a great one, but the execution didn't match my expectations. Yes, this is fiction, but there were too many things that stretched credibility too much for me. I know very few 7th/8th graders who could do anything like this, and I've been in middle school for 35+ years. The ditsy, judgmental secretary and buffoon, criminal principal were too much as well. Yes, there were some funny parts, and I think it will appeal to my students (and I have talked it up quite a bit), but I don't think they will really relate to it. I will look for more from this author, though.

Great story that contains a lot of action. Students will like the idea of a heist. Also, written with a middle school voice my students connect with. I can see several kids really gravitating towards this book. Grades 5+

i'm kind of surprised at the number of reviews of this book complaining that it has too many characters? because my memory is not great and i honestly had no trouble distinguishing between anyone at all. i guess it helped some that they're all the front cover so it's pretty easy to glance at it and remind yourself who's who

anyways this is about a jackson greene, middle school student and reformed con artist. definitely reformed. 100%. he would absolutely not pull off a long complicated large scale con to ensure his maybe-girlfriend still wins the student council election after finding out it's rigged in favour of the dude who ratted him out to the principal the previous year

(he does)

it's pretty darned delightful, i would love to watch a movie of this. we get a large diverse cast of characters -- look at that front cover! -- bringing in different complimentary skill sets. it's not realistic in the way where something like leverage isn't realistic, everybody's brighter and more competent than a similar group of kids would likely be in real life but who cares? it'd be like complaining the dialogue in a movie is just too witty and entertaining. this is the heist novel we all need and deserve, i would give it to a thirteen year old in a heartbeat. 4 stars
