I love this book.  Melissa writes a compelling character with Alice.
When we meet Alice, she’s living in her stepfather’s penthouse with him, his daughter and Alice’s mom.  And them her mom vanishes and Alice embarks on a rescue mission that leads to her grandmother’s estate.

Bad luck always follows Alice and her mom, and this time feels no different.

I love how creepy this story feels.  Each reveal feels shocking to me and by the end, you can’t help but wonder if
Melissa found a doorway to the Hazel Wood
.

If creepy fantasy is your jam, definitely check out this book.

DISCLAIMER: It's been a while since I read this book but I'm going back to do reviews for all the books I've read since 2018, so forgive any lapses of memory.

It's a really interesting, dark story that's very well-written. Docked it a star because I remember the general voice and narration of the story being almost unbearably smug, IDK how else to describe it. This could be related to the twist we find out later in the story about the protagonist and could actually be a genius part of the writing, though. and could also be due to me not remembering it.

Bisher sehr unklar wo es hingegen soll, keinerlei sympathische Charaktere, wirre Ausschnitte und eine Alice im Wunderland Neuerzählung - leider nichts für mich.

Really intriguing premise! Got better as it went along.

This was an interesting read. It started slowly as a standard YA fantasy book, but shifted about halfway through to a creative and thrilling story. However, I’m not quite sure what to make of the ending. This almost feels like 3 different books wrapped in one.
