emotional damage

Libro fácil de leer. Algo triste, sin exagerar en el drama.

This book is a five star for me, with everything from a summer vacation in the Dodogne, to complicated family relationships, friendship and so much more. Jessica is raising her son, William, alone when her boyfriend Adam leaves Manchester for France after a falling out. Jess’ mother encourages her to spend the summer with Adam so William can get to know him. There is a reason behind this , but no spoilers, suffice it to say this is a heartwarming and moving book that was hard to put down.

3,5*

I can’t remember where this one was recommended to me from (maybe the library, which can be hit or miss). As a whole, the storytelling was fine and was generally what I look for in an easy fiction read that I can listen to while cleaning, crafting, etc. But the ableism in this one was pretty serious (plenty of internalized) and that made it far less enjoyable.

The cover is so colorful it begs to be picked up. This is one of those books that balances happy and uplifting with just the right amount of sadness. Plus- it’s set in the French countryside and that is always a good thing. A quick, enjoyable read!

This was so trite, so contrived.
It’s a no from me.

I was extremely surprised at how much I enjoyed this book! This beautifully written story starts off like a light read about Jess and her son visiting Adam, her ex, but the story takes you on an emotional roller coaster as it turns to focus on illness, secrets, and grief. I appreciated the research the author did for the book, too. I also thought all the characters were well-developed/realistic and likeable which made this book even harder to put down.

Overall, a charming and touching story about love on all levels, whether it's with a partner, family, or friends. It makes you appreciate all the good you have in your life.
emotional reflective sad fast-paced

Though the plot was predictable in one of those far-fetched romantic drama-esque ways, I did really appreciate the general sentiment around "the secret" (which, I'll omit for the sake of spoilers).
