A twin is murdered at a private school and the other twin suspected ( mostly due to lazy police work and an inability for other characters to see beyond the seemingly obvious). Not a complex plot or full of new ideas but it did keep me guessing.
Fairly predictable plot, but still interesting. Characters lacked depth which made me not invest myself in any of them. I didn’t feel like I cared about the outcome of any of them.
She Was the Quiet One as a thrilling read that constantly left me wanting more! I quickly found myself attached to all of the characters, even if they weren't super relatable to me. While I had guessed who the killer was fairly early on, the ending still left me surprised with additional details I never saw coming. I can't wait to check out more titles from this author!
Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was just “meh” to me. I felt like it was really slow moving and displayed an interesting relationship between twins that was hateful and cruel. I was expecting this to focus more on the murder mystery rather than the statutory rape between teacher and students. The epilogue was completely unnecessary, and I didn’t feel like it added to the story at all. Overall wasn’t a bad book, but just didn’t ever catch my attention.
Very intense! Such a good read! It had me captivated from cover to cover. I recommend this book !

I'm not usually drawn to this genre of novel, but something about the cover of this book and the subject matter drew me in.....and I am happy it did, because I thoroughly enjoyed the read. It reminded me a little of the series "Pretty Little Liars" - twists, turns and you are never quite sure until the end of the story how things really went down or how much had actually been going on behind the scenes. I am definitely going to search out "It's Always The Husband" by this author now, as I really enjoyed the writing style.
there is a point in this book where one of the main characters receives an email from "[email protected]". they keep referring to the person who sent the email as "anonymouse" and it gets worse and worse.
this is truly awful sentence-level writing.

She Was the Quiet One explores the complexity of human relationships through the lens of a mystery. Rose and Bel are twins from California hoping for a new start at a prestigious boarding school. Sarah is the wife of one of the boarding school's teachers. It's these two relationships that are at the forefront of our story when we discover one of the twins has been murdered.
Which twin is dead? Could the other twin be to blame? How about the teacher? What was the motive? These questions keep part one moving at a comfortable pace as the reader is left to begin the great Whodunit guessing game. The dynamics of the relationships between Bel and Rose / Sarah and her husband create suspense, but when you get to part two it seems to be a lot of the same. I found I was predicting things a lot more as the story went on and some things were way too convenient (a pet peeve of mine when reading mystery/thriller)
I'd recommend it for readers looking to venture from YA to more "adult" books, as I feel She Was the Quiet One is darker and more adult without being intimidating.
