Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book! Release date - July 31, 2018

I actually liked this one a good bit more than I was expecting! I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting, but something about the cover made me feel like I was just going to feel average towards this one. But the writing style was great, the mystery kept me reading, and the characters felt realistic and I actually cared what happened to them.

The writing style and storytelling reminded me a lot of [a:Liane Moriarty|322069|Liane Moriarty|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1459827224p2/322069.jpg]. We are told at the very beginning that at a boarding school (that reminded me a lot of Chilton from Gilmore Girls), one twin is dead and the other is the prime suspect in her murder, although she claims she is innocent. But we aren't told which one is which. Then through both narrative and flash-forward interviews with the police, the story leading up to this tragic event is revealed.

I really liked this storytelling concept, because it kept me reading to find out whether Bel or Rose is the one dead. The twins really don't get along, and throughout both make threats toward the other, making you wonder if one twin really did kill the other. And once it is revealed who is dead and what events led up to her murder, I didn't want to put the book down.

If I have one complaint it's that for most of the first half of the book, we are kept in the dark about almost everything, who is dead, how it happened, the circumstances surrounding the murder. But then we get to part 2, when it is revealed who died, and then from that point on we are told basically everything. The number one suspect is then practically innocent in the reader's eyes because we know all the details, who the victim was meeting, the circumstances leading up to her death, what the supposed murderer did afterwards, so that the reader knows more than any other character - including the police, the suspect, and all the other characters except the victim and the murderer. I would have preferred a little more to be withheld until the end, a little more, hm I wonder if it was this person or this person who was the murderer. I would have liked to be kept in suspense along with the characters. There aren't any twists past part 2, except a little bit in the epilogue that was interesting but didn't have much to do with the storyline as a whole.

Overall though, this really didn't dampen my enjoyment and I'll just chalk it up to a different storytelling choice than I'm used to in these types of books. I really did still enjoy the second half despite the lack of mystery just to see how all the events would play out.

I'm definitely glad I gave this book a try and was pleasantly surprised by it! I'd like to check out other books by Michele Campbell for sure.

Another great book by Michele!! Suspense, Drama, Mystery made for a great read that kept me wanting more.
This book was about 2 twin teenage girls who went to a boarding school together. 1 was the goody goody where the other was the bad girl.
It KINDA reminded me of PLL and Clique but this was more intense and dramatic than PLL and Clique.
I wish the right person would of got arrested instead of killing themselves but in every good story the bad person always dies.

Good psychological thriller. After the death of their parents (several years apart), twins Bel and Rose are sent to Odell boarding school. Bel and Rose are very different from each other, and have different friends and experiences. Definitely two different personalities with these two.

However, it’s not all fun and games at the boarding school. As you’d expect, there are mean girls, in and out groups, controversies, and crimes. Sarah and her husband, Heath, are newly arrived dormitory heads, and they play pivotal roles in this thriller. Told from different perspectives, some of which include police interrogations, the reader weaves the tale as they go to reconstruct the crime.

This one starts slowly, and I think readers will be able to narrow down the suspect list. But, I enjoyed the character development and plot, and the author does a nice job of describing scenery and with dialog.

Thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for my advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

The twin Sisters were once close, until boarding school changed them, changed everything. Now one lies dead with multiple stab wounds; the other locked in the infirmary accused of her murder with a large lump on her head and a foggy memory... sure she had a fight with her Sister but that doesn't mean she would kill the only family she had left - would she? how could she?

This novel is gripping from the start, I read the first two pages in a bookshop whilst waiting for a friend.... but I couldn't put it down, I was hooked - so naturally I had to buy it! I loved the structure of this novel, it combines present day, with police interviews and the past. Drip feeding the reader the lead up to the crime revealing the who, how, what and whys along the way. Maintaining the intrigue though out, Campbell keeps the twists coming right until the very last pages. This is a must read for fans of Liane Moriarty's Big Little Lies.

Bel and Rose Enright are twins, but they could not be more different. Rose loves academics and following the rules. Bel is a rebel and makes her own rules. After some changes in their family, the girls end up at the prestigious Odell Academy in New England. Bel falls in with an unsavory crowd and is pitted against her sister. Bel starts to obsess over Heath, her advisor/teacher and the husband of Sarah, who Rose adores. As the story continues you begin to wonder who could have committed the crime, and better yet, can any of them really be trusted? I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved that the chapters were told in different POV and even pulled the investigation into parts of its own. The plot was pretty original and unpredictable, which I always appreciate! rating: 3 out of 5 stars ⭐️

There are so many things I want to say about this book. I'll start first by saying I have NOT yet read Michele Campbell's first book "It's Always the Husband". I say that because it lets you know that I went into this story not knowing at all what to expect.

Campbell is a brilliant writer that kept me flipping pages. This has been one of those weeks where I've not been allowed to get solely immersed in a book, which proved to be rather frustrating as I wanted to finish this in one sitting. (But alas, it's my daughter's tenth birthday and I have to make a cake). However, three days later, here I am...having finished the book, finally!

She Was the Quiet One tells a tale of twin sisters on their journey at a new boarding school following their mother's death. The sisters grieve in vastly different ways and it comes between them, proving to be fatal. The question is, which sister dies and who is at fault.

I really enjoyed how Campbell would insert interviews with characters and the detectives throughout the story. The differing point of views between chapters flowed flawlessly. Sometimes (and more recently for me) the change of POV gets confusing and hard to follow, but Campbell was able to create an effortless experience here.

I don't think there was that one big "wow" factor that I always expect from thrillers but that didn't take away from the story for me. There was a fun twist at the end that was a great addition to the plot. All in all, it was a great read that I'd highly recommend to anyone. It'll definitely give you something to think about when interacting with loved ones. It may make you stop and think about what another person may be experiencing. She Was the Quiet One shows that empathy can go a long way.

Thank you St. Martin’s Press for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, wow, wow! What an incredible thriller! I was swept in from the first chapter and found myself breezing through the pages. I could not put it down and the final ending left me floored. I had figured out some parts but not the ending. The author did a great job of building the suspense from the beginning. The characters were well developed. There was a duality to the sisters that made me want to root for them individually. My heart broke in a couple places because of events that transpired. As I was reading, I could not help but share mu thoughts and emotions with others. The writing style was easy to follow yet very descriptive. I cannot wait to read more works from this author. Thanks to St. Martin's Press for the ARC and chance to provide an honest. review

That ended really stupid.
It had too many chapters and that really could have been condensed.

This book... what can I say? It follows 2 twins Bel & Rose Enright they are attending Odell Boarding School after losing their mother to cancer. Rose doesn’t fit in right away while Bel makes friends with the popular senior kids. They are trouble and has a bet where one of the girls can try and seduce their faculty advisor Heath Donovan.

Bel ends up being bait..

Her and Heath ends up having a relationship and Heath’s wife Sarah (the other faculty advisor) has no idea. Rose tries to blackmail Bel but Bel doesn’t budge. Until a murder happens...

This book was like a bad Lifetime movie mixed with a soap opera. It was good but I could have had less chapters or the plot could have sped up more and the ending was stupid. ESPECIALLY THE EPILOGUE like what was that? But it kept my attention more than I thought it would so.

This was my first novel by Michele Campbell and now I cant wait to go back and read her first one! I really enjoyed the different perspectives in this novel and that it followed twin sisters that were so drastically different. It kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen next and trying to solve who was murdered and by whom.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
