In Dark Angel, Ruth is invited to a small Italian village by an old colleague to provide her expert opinion on an old skeleton uncovered during a dig. During the visit (inevitably) someone is murdered and some obscure events occur which leads to Ruth becoming more embroiled in uncovering the actual events.  Not a bad novel for a slow Sunday afternoon, though the storyline could have done with more complexity. The whodunnits are well written and there are a few twists and turns and the development of the backstory is as always decent without detracting from the whodunnits.

I’ve loved these books from the beginning. The cases are great, the characters are fascinating, and I love the mysteries. BUT, I am over Ruth’s constant whining about how she’s not religious. For someone who’s not religious, she talks about it ALL THE TIME. We get it already. Move on. This may be the last book I read in this series due to that, which is disappointing. And I need her relationship with DCI Nelson to come to a resolution. Quit waffling. Either get with him or move on.

I think I am a bit in shock after this book. Every time I think I know what might happen, a twist is thrown in, and I'm left feeling like what just happened. I am shocked by the death in this one; I did not see that coming. I love that DCI Nelson's dog played a big part in this. This is a great series, and you will never be sorry that you started it! About to move on to the next one!

When I'm at 10/10 anxious, I can't read with my eyes, so I'm thankful for audiobooks. In this installment of the Ruth Galloway series, the gang goes to Italy! Love a shopping episode. There's a surprise shocking ending that leans heavily into the soap opera element of the series, but whatever. After 10 books, though, I'm ready for the "will they or won't they" to resolve. Let's try in #11.

As usual, I enjoyed going along for the ride with Ruth Galloway. I wasn't super impressed by the mystery itself, however the jaunt to Italy and the interactions between Ruth, Nelson, Cathbad, Tim, Michelle, and the others more than made up for it. I'm going to be on pins and needles waiting for the next book in the series.
