This is a great book. The title story is fantastic (and reminiscent of Lessing's Mara and Dann) but the appended poems, essays, and interview (conducted by Terry Bisson) make this a knock-out book.

A great read.

An eclectic mixture of things has been poured into this slender volume: the longest piece is a short story, there are some poems, an essay, an interview...

But here's a bonus Goodreads-only bit:

There's an interview in here in which LeGuin bemoans the state of the modern publishing industry as it attempts to mass market to the lowest common denominator. Now - can you think of any way in which this might be spreading and contaminating all book-related activities and how it might lead to attempted censorship and the defeat of the purpose of reading in the first place - the free exchange of ideas.
