A captivating tale of a young girl doing all she can to protect her little sister in a palace they were abducted to as low caste/pseudo-slaves. Even in such a short novel, the author manages to build convincing characters and a whole society, showing us different environments and related different interpersonal relationships, with a thrilling touch of the supernatural. The essays, the poems and the interview included in this volume are quite interesting and brilliant, as usual with Le Guin.

A wildly depressing short story about slavery, some poems, and two essays.  The writing is excellent.  There is also an interview with the author where she isn't very forthcoming.

A compelling story, two insightful essays, a few gem-like poems, and an interview that manages to be both terrible and enlightening at the same time
