3.5 stars. As someone new to Le Guin, this felt like a good place to start. You get a sampling of her fiction, her poetry, her more “academic” writing, & her personality. This made me eager to read more in the future!
I haven't read Le Guin extensively but the short story included here feels quite different from the other works of hers I've read. That said, it's still very much Le Guin and a fantastic read, capturing an intimate story of sisters while also creating a new, interesting world.

An interesting collection of texts gathered here. Wilds Girls is a short story that adds to the authors contribution to the reflection of the suject of slavery, the power structures it rests upons and the social roles it creates. It's a great story, told in a different way from the stories created about the worlds of Yeowe and Werel - found in Four Ways to Forgivness and Old Music and the Slave Women. There is a wonderfull essay defending modesty, called The Conversation of the Modest. And an interview with the author. For those that are not familiar with the author's poetry, there are also some poems. And a text called that is almost a manifest about books, with the eloquent title Staying awake while we read.

Nice short read. The title short story is classic le Guin. Great imagined culture, compelling characters and good story telling. Also included, some short poems, a very interesting essay on modesty, and a weirdly entertaining interview.

I fucking love Ursula K. Le Guin. The Wild Girls was alright, but the best parts of this (real tiny) book are her pieces on modern publishing and on modesty. It makes my heart proud knowing that Ursula K. Le Guin is also a fan of Mansfield Park. She is the best. I must needs read more of her stuff now.
