Good read

For such a short story, this is really complete. I enjoyed reading it, and while a longer version would be great because I like the author's style a lot, this short one was very satisfying.

I didn't really get connected to the characters in this which is what really would've sold it.

This is not a "Short Story" - it's an excerpt.
Even for a "short story" it is way too short. In addition, there's no edge or surprise that might turn it into something interesting - just a 44 minute read which can be summarized in a few lines (see below) and doesn't even have a proper ending. It might have worked as the introduction to something longer, but not as a standalone tale.
Audio book: Nevertheless, the narrator does a good job.

Story summary:
Spoiler
1. Captain wakes up from hibernation after reaching planet to deploy settlers on
2. Planet is not as good as expected
3. Settlers are to be deployed anyway, following the contract
4. Settlers revolt - captain is tazered - settlers win
5. Captain wakes up from hibernation and finds himself in a well functioning colony. The End(?)

Great fun short story, I would love to see it expanded upon.

Short story. Dennis Taylor is a great sci-fi author
A short story requires the author to grab you quickly. They can't do much world building and in this short book, Dennis Taylor shows he's a master.
You'd think that things will go entirely wrong, but there's a surprise to the end. Very well done.

I'm not usually one for short stories as I find there's just not enough there to develop or get invested into. However, in such a short space of time, I was absolutely invested in what was going on. It was the perfect 'three nerds in a room' kind of thing. The prospect was brilliant, the jump to the other timeline was brilliant, and it had a very satisfactory conclusion.

Wowwww nerds are like so good, daddy.

To be fair though, as much as I take the piss, I would read this again, just to fill the time.
